FAQs

What services do you offer?

1

We offer various art conservation services, including the treatment of books and paper-based objects. In addition to treatment we are able to provide consultation on other related topics, such as surveying and advising on the storage of collections, designing or improving integrated pest management programs. We are also passionate about connecting both individuals and organizations with conservation concerns with relevant resources. Even if we cannot address specific issues, we are happy to help find solutions.

How do I get started?

2

The first step is to get in contact. Pinney Art Conservation is based in South Burlington, Vermont, and it is always best to see the object in person before any initial assessments are made. If that is not possible it is best to send images via email. We are also willing to meet potential clients in the middle if the drive is an hour or less.

What should I expect after the initial contact?

3

If the project is something that we are able to work on, and initial examination and treatment proposal will be created. This is a non-negotiable part of the conservation treatment process, as is provides the conservator with further information about the object, and lays out exactly what will be completed. There is a $60 fee for this report, which will be charged regardless of if the treatment is approved. If the treatment is approved this report, along with a contract, is signed and the treatment commences.

How long will the treatment take?

What is the best way to get in contact?

Every treatment will have a different time estimate. However, it is important to understand that even if the quoted time is, for example, four hours, often the steps cannot be completed all at once. There can be hours or even weeks between steps. Conservation treatment is a lengthy process. If there is a specific deadline for an object this should be communicated as soon as possible.

Email is the most reliable way to reach out.
